Fall and Winter Events for the Family in Pismo Beach and SLO County

Family at sunset in Pismo Beach at SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel fire pit

As the season turns to winter, Pismo Beach offers the perfect opportunity to slow down, unwind, and embrace the simple pleasures of coastal living and gift giving. Soft winter light graces the shoreline, peaceful mornings invite a slower pace, and coffee by the ocean becomes a cherished daily ritual. In downtown, festive decorations and the town’s signature coastal charm create a welcoming backdrop for the holiday season.  November and December bring a wonderful blend of beloved traditions and new seasonal experiences. From community celebrations to unforgettable moments by the sea, there are countless ways to discover Pismo Beach through a more relaxed and intimate lens.  Here you’ll find inspiration for a memorable coastal holiday getaway, including family friendly seasonal events, festive dining, winter markets, holiday shopping, and the best ways to experience the magic of Pismo Beach this time of year.

Celebrate the season at Holiday Harmony, returning to Pismo Beach each December with festive activities, live entertainment, and family-friendly cheer along the Pier Plaza. Enjoy holiday treats, creative crafts, and sparkling seaside lights as the community comes together for one of Pismo’s most beloved winter traditions including the tree lighting ceremony. Join us for a joyful evening that welcomes locals and visitors alike to share in the magic of the holidays on the central California coast.

Continue the spirited events with Snowflakes by the Sea at the Pismo Beach Pier. Families are invited to bring their own paper snowflake cutouts, and our expert sand artist will help transform into large-scale holiday designs right on the beach. This event is free and all-ages. Enjoy an afternoon where winter magic meets the shoreline.

Santa will once again make his way from the North Pole to his winter residence in Mission Plaza, located in downtown San Luis Obispo, where families can meet him, share their wish lists and pose for photos.  Santa’s House Opening Day is November 27, 2026 and guests can watch Santa arrive in Mission Plaza on a firetruck and enjoy a live performance from the SLO County Band. The opening will also celebrate all the fun in Holiday Plaza, including the Classic Carousel, Holiday Tree, light displays, photo opportunities and more.  Santa’s House will run Thursdays to Sundays from November 27 through December 24.  Find the mailbox outside of Santa’s House and mail your wish list to the North Pole for a response back from Santa!

Stroll the festive streets of Shell Beach and enjoy an evening filled with Santa visits, live music, local shopping, and holiday treats with the annual Shell Beach Holiday Stroll. With decorated storefronts and coastal charm at every stop, this neighborhood tradition is a favorite for both locals and visitors and the perfect time to shop for your loved ones during this season of giving.

If philanthropic giving is on your “Santa Do” list this season, here are a few non-profits in SLO County that we at Shorebirds Hotels recommend and contribute to through donations and volunteer activities throughout the year:

5Cities Homeless Coalition has helped over 1,500 individuals in 2025 and 2026 by aiding in homeless prevention, re-housing, transitional shelters, warming center, and youth outreach programs.  Their Navigation Center and "Cabins for Change" programs in Grover Beach have been successful in housing over 160 individuals in permanent housing in SLO County.

The SLO Food Bank is also working with a network of partners including the homeless services to provide nutritious and wholesome food to alleviate hunger in San Luis Obispo County.  They distribute their fresh produce, shelf stable products, breads and dairy products through senior home deliveries, food pantries, neighborhood food distributions and prepared meals at homeless shelters and warming centers throughout the region.

Lumina Alliance is an organization that supports those impacted by sexual and intimate partner violence, with services in mutliple languages for all genders, ethnicities, cultures, religions, ages, abilities, sexual orientations and countries of origin.  The non-profit focuses on providing life-changing services that empower survivors and help them to find safety, healing and hope through emergency shelters, transitional housing and prevention education programs.

Thank you for considering giving back to those in need this holiday season and we look forward to your next visit to Pismo Beach!
